FAST FACTS:

Beside pretty famous tanks, self-propelled guns, armored cars or halftracks, the German army used a number of special purpose armored vehicles which are not so well known and let`s say neglected. Specific branch of armored fighting vehicles were so called Flakpanzers - anti-aircraft tanks. These were basically installations of various AA guns on the fully tracked tank chassis. Germans played the lead role in development of this machines. They simply had to, because as the war progressed, they faced the enemy aerial superiority on both fronts.

Another interesting category of armored vehicles were the remotly controlled mine-clearing and demolition machines. There were several designs varying from rather primitive ones, intended to be used only once and destroyed by the detonation of carried explosives, to pretty sofisticated charge layers (including experiments with installation of a camera to help the driver with remote control).

Last category of vehicles covered in this section are amphibious personnel and/or cargo carriers which were intended to be used for invasion to Great Britain as part of never realised operation Sealion.
